After serving four years in the United States Air Force as a C-141 Loadmaster, Kevin obtained his California Real Estate Agent license in 1985 and went to work for Coldwell Banker in Livermore, CA as a residential Real Estate Agent. During his time at Coldwell Banker, he learned how to buy distressed/foreclosed homes on the courthouse steps. He turned this into a side business restoring the homes and re selling usually within 6 months. 

In 1987, Kevin began a career as a commercial Real Estate Agent specializing in hotel and motel sales. Kevin excelled at the new venture and won numerous awards while working for American Hotel Motel Brokers out of Burlingame, CA. However, after a life changing event, (trapped in a building near the epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake) he and his wife moved from the bay area to Elk Grove, CA where he found his true calling as a residential home loan officer.  Kevin had always liked working with numbers and the financing part of Real Estate, so it was an easy transition. As a loan officer for Spanish Bay Mortgage, he quickly rose up the ranks as the company’s top loan producer from 1991 to 1994. He also found time to manage a 20-employee branch office in Roseville for Spanish Bay Mortgage.

In 1995, he and his family moved to Cool, CA and started Mathews Mortgage, a local home loan brokerage. For over 30 years, Kevin’s reputation as the “go to” person for home loans has enabled him to provide quality service to thousands of homeowners. His clients know that Kevin’s years of experience and knowledge in real estate and financing translates to helping them make smart and informed decisions about their own finances.

Fast forward to 2024, Kevin realized the amount of regulation and administrative paperwork needed to maintain his brokerage business was taking away time that he could be helping clients.  After considering several jobs offers with other banks and lenders, Kevin has now teamed up with Empire Home Loans. “Being part of the Empire home loan family offers my clients access to more loan programs, quicker loan closings and more of my personal attention to make sure every customer achieves their home financing goals.”

In his off time, Kevin enjoys playing guitar, hiking/foraging for wild mushrooms and spending time with his wife, three daughters and granddaughter.
